I am always happy to consult with families before their sessions to ensure their images have the look they envision.
Although our consultation covers many important topics a major part of client inquiries are centered around how to prep for the day of with their wardrobe. For me its all about coordinating rather than matching however I have had clients pull off some adorable matching outfits on their children. My advice is to incorporate various textures along with accessories and to choose from a color palette that compliments. Rather than post a bulleted list of tips I always find this time of year its nice to share my own process in selecting outfits for my family’s photo shoot.
Black and white are challenging colors to photograph so some will be surprised by my choice to go that route this year. If done right it can provide a classic modern look which is what I am going for. As you can see accessories (Hat,Necklace,Tie) help give the outfits depth. Also keeping within a complimentary color palette, mixing prints with solids and coordinating without dressing identical is on display in the selections below.
Making these choices and getting your family on board is certainly challenging and time consuming but so worth it to ensure the end result is the best it can be. Even in my case as an experienced professional I can only hope my selections are embraced and that the clothing selected flatters us all. We have a family session booked with one of my very talented Photographer friends. The location has been set and the outfits are en route from various online retailers. Dad is happy with the shirt I ordered him so I already feel my leg work has been a success! At the end of the day all I can do though is hope for nice weather and an agreeable group of Brandenberger Men so we all have a great day!
